About The Position

Founders Classical Academy Online (FCA Online) is seeking a Virtual School Counselor to deliver proactive guidance curriculum, engage students in academic and career planning, and respond to individual and group needs with responsive counseling and programming. This role involves reviewing transfer student transcripts, maintaining and reviewing active student transcripts, creating and maintaining student graduation plans, and providing career readiness curriculum. The counselor will also coordinate career fairs and special career-focused events, deliver Life Skills curriculum, create and maintain Student 504 plans, and analyze student data to inform academic programs and interventions. While the position is virtual, travel within Texas will be required several times per year to support in-person state testing and student events. ACCEL Schools, the parent organization, is a network of public charter schools dedicated to addressing educational inequities and offering innovative models.

Requirements

  • Valid Texas School Counselor license
  • Open to residents in Texas
  • Master's degree plus one (1) year previous experience in counseling and/or advisement OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with the ASCA model
  • Experience with K-12 online learning
  • Experience with OH CTE, including creating and maintaining external partnerships
  • A fundamental understanding of Career and Technical Education (CTE), it’s indicators as measurements of success, and the pathway approach in which CTE is implemented
  • Experience with Local, State, and Federal laws and mandated reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations and make evidence-based decisions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks

Responsibilities

  • Deliver proactive guidance curriculum to individuals and groups
  • Engage students in academic and career planning assessments, interpret results, and assist student with developing a plan that leads to student success and on-time graduation
  • Respond to individual and group needs with responsive counseling and programming
  • Review transfer student transcripts and inform appropriate course placements
  • Maintain and review transcripts for active students and inform credit award procedures
  • Create and maintain student graduation plans
  • Provide career readiness curriculum and facilitate creation of career plans
  • Coordinate career fairs, graduate fairs, and special career focused events
  • Deliver Life Skills curriculum
  • Create and maintain Student 504 plans
  • Analyze student data to provide input on appropriate academic programs and interventions
  • Travels to support testing efforts and school events within the state as needed
