About The Position

The Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) serves as the technical strategist, filling the technology leadership gap in a client's environment. This role owns the client's technology strategy and roadmap, sets direction, and translates technical realities into business decisions. The vCIO acts as the primary technology leader for clients lacking their own, or supplements existing technology leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, or a related field.
  • 10+ years in IT or cybersecurity, including significant experience in a leadership, management, or strategic advisory role.
  • A technical foundation combined with business or management experience.
  • Comfortable advising executive stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience building technology roadmaps and leading IT strategy and budget planning.
  • Working knowledge of the compliance landscape (HIPAA, PCI DSS, CJIS, CMMC, GLBA) and its business impact.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an MSP or MSSP environment.
  • Familiarity with security platforms and managed services sufficient to advise on them, rather than to operate them.
  • Industry-specific experience relevant to assigned clients.
  • Familiarity with RMM software, EDR/MDR solutions, professional services automation, and IT documentation platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technology roadmap, being accountable for the client's technology plan and its strategic direction.
  • Set direction by working with the client to determine the future state of their environment and the order of operations, aligned with their business goals.
  • Translate technical findings into business terms, identifying threats, costs, and the urgency of issues.
  • Lead executive engagement, serving as the client's trusted technology advisor at the leadership level and guiding strategic conversations.
  • Guide investment and budget planning by providing leadership during IT budget and technology investment planning.
  • Shape discovery into strategy by incorporating technical discovery and assessment from the delivery team into the roadmap as priorities and direction.
  • Surface strategic opportunities through the roadmap, identifying where technology can reduce costs, mitigate risks, and advance the client's business, and shaping these opportunities for the account team.
  • Maintain an understanding of the client's environment and business to ensure the roadmap remains relevant as both evolve.
