About The Position

The Virtual Preparatory Academy of Washington (VPA Washington) is a K-12 tuition-free online public school in Washington state. VPA Washington aims to empower students by providing personalized learning experiences through innovative technology, allowing them to learn at their own pace and level. The school is seeking a highly qualified Virtual Assistant Principal to provide a superior education. The Assistant Principal will serve as a cultural, behavioral, and academic leader, working closely with the Principal. This role involves partnering with teachers, administrators, parents, and students to foster an environment focused on academic excellence and accountability. The ideal candidate will be adept at building strong relationships across all levels and backgrounds, possess excellent project management skills, and be highly organized and thorough. This position is open to residents of Washington.

Requirements

  • Current valid Principal and Teacher license in the state of Washington.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related discipline.
  • Successful completion of federal and state criminal background checks.
  • Knowledge of state academic content standards.
  • Minimum seven years of experience in education or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in successful school administration/instructional leadership.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining a rigorous academic program that meets the needs of all students.
  • Experience in public education accountability, compliance, and related legal requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Passion for improving educational opportunities for all students and for building a strong, highly effective organization aligned to this mission.
  • Understanding of and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Washington residency preferred.
  • Advanced degree in education/educational leadership strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of/experience with innovative school designs and instructional models, including those featuring 21st Century learning strategies like blended, inquiry, problem/project based and personalized learning.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a caring, supportive, and inclusive school community.
  • Understand the impact of trauma, equity, inclusive practices, and restorative practices on the student and teacher experience.
  • Provide coaching and professional development in effective classroom management strategies.
  • Collaborate with staff and families to identify and implement strategies to improve student behavior, attendance, and engagement.
  • Engage families and the community in meaningful ways that promote student academic success and well-being.
  • Implement behavior management practices that motivate students through strong relationships with teachers and positive reinforcements.
  • Act as a point person to the local community, communicating the school's mission and vision, and soliciting input from parents and families.
  • Understand, accept, abide by, and implement the school's philosophy and mission statement.
  • Contribute to a positive climate and culture by exhibiting high professional standards.
  • Engage and build strong professional relationships with parents through timely and regular communications.
  • Formulate and administer a comprehensive program of Career and Technical Education.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators, student services personnel, and teachers to ensure the delivery of career development services.
  • Facilitate linkages with parents, business/industry, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations to support students’ transition to postsecondary education and employment.
  • Cultivate partnerships with external organizations that enrich the school's culture.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop, implement, and lead instructional programs, assessing curriculum, pedagogy, lesson plans, and observing classes to encourage diverse instructional strategies and materials consistent with best practices.
  • Share responsibility for student achievement in academics and social-emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to plan and facilitate professional development for teachers that support instructional best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental leadership teams and staff to plan and coordinate staff in-service days, parent-teacher conferences, and extended learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other instructional leaders to ensure the MTSS/RTI process is followed with fidelity.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to coordinate and oversee summer educational opportunities.
  • Partner with Human Resources to execute a highly effective talent management system for recruiting, selecting, hiring, retaining, recognizing, and supporting all school site staff.
  • Ensure non-discrimination practices in faculty and staff selection by adhering to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Home Office/Operations Team on review and reporting requirements for State, charter authorizing agency, Federal regulatory agencies, and the school sponsor, including the charter renewal process.
  • Understand and address all compliance items related to the school's Sponsor Agreement.
  • Support the state-required testing process, including in-person testing.
  • Assist with updating parent and student manuals, policies, and handbooks.
  • Stay current on the state’s policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Exhibit high-quality communication with all students and families.
  • Handle student problems escalated by parents and teachers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
