About The Position

This position will recruit and teach violin students at elementary through advanced levels for both pre-college and adults. The role involves teaching basic technique and appropriate repertoire, evaluating students' skill levels, and maintaining a studio of non-college violin students. The instructor will also participate in departmental activities such as student auditions, recitals, concerts, and workshops, and will assist students with recording sessions for auditions and competitions. Responsibilities include maintaining a lesson schedule, holding regular studio recitals, arranging performance opportunities, attending school and departmental events, holding parent meetings, providing counseling on musical development, and performing administrative tasks related to student records.

Requirements

  • Master degree or higher, or equivalent professional experience preferred with significant interest and 10+ years of experience in teaching string bass.
  • Active performing/studio career preferred.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive, supportive team environment required.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be able to see, hear, feel, and use hands to type and grasp objects with fingers.
  • Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending, and stooping; occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or less; light to heavy repetitive use of hands, wrists and forearms while working on a computer.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships involving interactions and communications personally, by phone and in writing with a variety of individuals and/or groups of individuals from diverse backgrounds on a regular, on-going basis.
  • Ability to concentrate on detailed tasks for extended periods of time and/or intermittently while attending to other responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure on multiple tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines and changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach non-college elementary, intermediate, and advanced violin students with emphasis on basic technique and command of appropriate repertoire.
  • Evaluate students to determine appropriate skill level.
  • Recruit and maintain studio of non-college violin students.
  • Participate in activities such as, but not limited to, departmental student auditions, Friday Night Recital adjudication, concerts, workshops, class performances, and faculty meetings.
  • Cooperate with and encourage students to audition for the orchestra conductors and chamber music program as appropriate.
  • Assist students with recording sessions for auditions, competitions, etc.
  • Maintain lesson schedule.
  • Hold regular studio recitals.
  • Arrange performance opportunities for students, as appropriate.
  • Attend school and departmental events.
  • Hold parent meetings/conferences to address student problems or issues.
  • Evaluate students as appropriate.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with students’ attendance and performance records.
  • Provide counseling related to student’s musical development.
  • Perform other related duties.
