About The Position

The Video Producer documents the City of Frederick’s story through various digital means, including video, photography and graphic design. Working with various City departments, the Video Producer captures imagery and develops content to meet clients’ needs. This position assists the Production Supervisor with directing television programming and broadcasting of City meetings and live events. The Video Producer receives weekly assignments and a work schedule from the Production Supervisor. The Video Producer must have the flexibility to work evening meetings and occasional City weekend events.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or certification in specific field of digital media or related communications field from an accredited college or university or sufficient work experience in related communications field.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in video production.
  • Two (2) years of video broadcasting work experience.
  • Experience with the operation of video cameras of current digital formats.
  • Vehicle Operator’s license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City’s insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.
  • Knowledge of industry standard production methods and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design and composition.
  • Proficient with editing software such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, or other appropriate, current software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, elected officials, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of audio engineering.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design.

Responsibilities

  • Develops innovative and creative digital media to inform the public about Frederick, in the forms of commercials, public service announcements, documentaries and talk shows.
  • Uploads recorded public meetings and other special programming to Channel 99 and online video streaming; posts requested information on the cable channel in a timely manner.
  • Leads strategic multimedia initiatives and implements creative solutions that support City communication and marketing goals.
  • Produces short- and long-form videos, photography, graphics, animation and other visual content.
  • Documents the City’s story and captures timely news, events and initiatives.
  • Works closely with all City departments to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Writes scripts for video productions.
  • Coordinates production schedules; organizes video and photo coverage of requested City events; Leads and assists studio and field productions.
  • Optimizes workflow of files and projects.
  • Keeps camera integrity and imaging consistent.
  • Maintains equipment in the field and in the control room in good working condition; fixes and/or diagnoses equipment failures and unforeseen production changes.
  • Operates cameras, video recorders, audio boards, lights and switches.
  • Directs live televised meetings.
  • Works on/is available on rotating call schedule for night, weekend and emergency responses.
  • Helps supervise department part-time staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Cross-trains for technical skills with the Production Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
