About The Position

Education Week is seeking a Video Producer to join their Visual and Immersive Experiences team. This role is for a visual editor with a strong journalism background who is excited to represent a respected mission-driven organization focused on K-12 public education content. The Video Producer will produce and publish short-form video journalism, featuring the expertise of EdWeek journalists on-camera, visual storytelling, on-the-ground reporting, and video explainers. This role is key to reaching the audience on and off-platform, including vertical-video format. The candidate must be a strong writer and capable video editor, skilled at publishing workflows, with meticulous attention to detail. The producer must excel at tracking breaking and ongoing news while consistently meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment. Under the direction of the Visuals Operations Manager, the video producer will help ensure a rich mix of content—news, information, opinion on across all Education Week products. The Video Producer works with the news and marketing teams, in carrying out decisions on content, design, visuals, promotion for core products, as well as working on special reports, multimedia, social media, virtual and live events, and webinars. This person is also expected to be engaged and pitch and produce stories, as well as produce and edit stories assigned to freelance visual journalists. Knowledge of photojournalism and photo editing is a plus.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of proven journalism experience (preferably in a digital video or broadcast newsroom)
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, and able to edit quickly and accurately
  • Demonstrated understanding of video production process
  • Demonstrated writing and researching skills
  • Social media platform expertise

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of photojournalism and photo editing is a plus.
  • Photography, photo editing, and researching a plus
  • Knowledge of archival databases a plus

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, plan, shoot, edit, and produce video on and off platform, that reflects EdWeek’s expertise and content standards
  • Plan assignment coverage with reporters and editors and correspondents
  • Pitch and produce relevant education stories (narratives, explainers, takeaways, for example)
  • Assign, produce and edit stories with freelance videographers
  • Work collaboratively with editorial, web, and art colleagues to conceptualize and develop visually compelling and interactive features to enhance staff-written news content, broadcast segments, and stand-alone digital video features
  • Work with live-streaming operations and live and virtual events
  • Participate and take the lead in various projects including, but not limited to, working with video and audio production, photo galleries, interactive elements, user-generated and partner content, and community building
  • Provide video support for crowd-sourced projects or reporter-led video
