About The Position

The City of Waco is seeking an experienced and proactive Victim Services Supervisor to manage the victim services work group for the Waco Police Department. This role requires a detail-oriented, organized individual who enjoys working with the public and can maintain strict confidentiality. The position operates under basic supervision and manages the operations and staff of the Victim Services work group, ensuring compliance with state laws and regulations. The supervisor provides ongoing assistance, crisis counseling, and follow-up to crime victims, coordinates special events, and advocates for the program with community organizations. Key responsibilities include supervising, training, and monitoring staff, reviewing work for quality, and preparing reports. The role may require after-hours response during emergencies and involves operating a City vehicle for transportation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Social Work, Psychology or a related field
  • Four (4) years experience in human services or a related setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Manages operations of the Victim Services work group.
  • Assures that appropriate services are provided and work is performed in compliance with state laws, City policies and WPD quality standards.
  • Interprets policies and procedures governing the confidentiality requirements and release of public records and information.
  • Provides ongoing assistance, crisis counseling and follow-up to the victims of crimes.
  • Provides crisis intervention and coordinates special events.
  • Addresses community organizations and advocate groups to explain the goals of the Victim Services program.
  • Supervises, trains and monitors staff.
  • Reviews work performed and assures that quality standards are met.
  • Meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve technical issues, workload and records system integrity.
  • Reviews work group activities, records and files and prepares summary and status reports.
  • May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.
  • Operates a City vehicle to safely transport people, equipment, and materials between city offices and other locations in and around the city.
