About The Position

The Coordinator, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault services will provide trauma-informed counseling, navigation, and case management services to individuals and families who have suffered or are currently suffering from domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Position is based in the Violence Intervention and Treatment Program and provides services to the community and to patients/families who utilize the hospital medical programs including ED, inpatient, and outpatient at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. Coordinates community outreach and education, culturally appropriate counseling, patient care coordination and volunteer Advocate Services.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from accredited College or University in counseling, psychology, social work, or relevant field.
  • Minimum of 1 year job-related experience providing trauma informed services to survivors of violence such as domestic violence or sexual assault.
  • License, LMSW (Licensed Master of Social Work)/ LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) New York State Dept. of Education.

  • Expertise in delivering time-bound, evidence-based counseling approaches in the field of family and sexual violence.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate follow up services for domestic violence and sexual assault cases referred from hospital units such as the Emergency Department and the inpatient unit, as well as from community referrals.
  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, individualized safety and care plans with clients.
  • Conduct individual and group follow up therapy sessions that are trauma-informed, age appropriate, and sensitive to the clients’ needs.
  • Provide case management services including but not limited to benefits application assistance, OVS Reimbursement Applications, and other appropriate referrals as needed in order to provide services in a comprehensive and coordinated manner.
  • Navigate and accompany clients as needed to police precincts, criminal and family court, and other medical providers, and attend community meetings.
  • Liaison with Emergency Department personnel to ensure the proper coordination of all SANE services to patients after a sexual assault.
  • Enter client data in a timely fashion in program-related documentation templates and databases and maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date client charts.
  • Coordinate events promoting education/awareness about family and sexual violence issues within the organization and outside in the community.
  • Assist in the development, updating and procurement of promotional and educational materials for VITP.
  • Assist in providing education and training to the employees, program volunteers, and/or community partner organizations.
  • Participate in regular supervision with immediate supervisor, clinical supervisor and other regular staff and program team meetings as required.
  • Maintain understanding of needs, expectations and requirements of the program.
  • Attend necessary trainings and in-services, including meetings off-site as recommended by the Program Manger to remain of current best practices in domestic violence and sexual violence services.
  • Respect, protect, and promote patient rights.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Document in the medical record according to Departmental policy & procedures, if required.
  • Use technology appropriately in the improvement of systems and work process.
  • Utilize time effectively in managing organizational priorities.
  • Understand and agree that work assignments and time schedules are changeable within the scope of services and as per the need of the Program.
  • Perform all other duties as required.
