About The Position

Title: Victim Services – Community Education Coordinator (Enough is Enough) Reports to: Crisis Services Manager Job Objectives: a. Provide front-line advocacy and direct crisis intervention to primary and second survivors of sexual violence. This requires the ability to work quickly and effectively under extreme pressure. This position provides casework services to clients including crisis counseling, safety planning, advocacy, information and referrals, emergency financial assistance, and claims filing. b. Facilitate NYS Department of Health Enough is Enough Prevention Education Program and community education programs. The purpose of the Enough is Enough Project is to assist colleges and universities in New York State in implementing policies and procedures concerning the response to and prevention of sexual assault, dating violence, intimate partner violence, and stalking on campuses. c. Perform duties while actively promoting an environment consistent with MHA’s Cultural Equity Policy and Welcome Orange.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in related field OR Associate’s Degree in related field with two (2) years’ experience. OR High School Diploma with four (4) years' experience.
Effective oral communications skills and ability to speak publicly and provide educational presentations to varied audiences.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to provide 24 hour on-call responsibilities up to 14 days per month.
Must be organized, self-motivated and have the ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in crisis situations and to abide by regulations regarding confidentiality.
Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to drive with current driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage.
Must be clear and maintain an acceptable record under any mandated criminal background check process.
An understanding of and commitment to social justice.

Responsibilities

Complete all direct service and collaborative responsibilities with empathy, equity, and compassion
Complete intakes with Survivors of Sexual Assault seeking services as outlined by policy and procedure to determine eligibility for services and identify victim needs.
Review consent and confidentiality with victims on a regular basis.
Provide eligible and needed services to victims including but not limited to crisis counseling, safety planning, advocacy, accompaniment, information and referrals, and Office of Victim Services claims filing.
Meet with victims in person and over the phone to provide ongoing services, support, and needs assessments.
Accompany victims of crime as needed while providing crisis counseling, information and referrals, assistance with crime victims compensation claims, criminal justice advocacy and personal advocacy.
Establish and maintain liaisons within the District Attorney’s Office, Law Enforcement, hospitals, attorneys, social services, and other community agencies and stakeholders.
Provide on-call responsibilities for Sexual Assault Survivor Advocacy Program, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, up to 14 days per month.
Provide services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual assault as necessary including short-term crisis counseling; both in-person and by telephone consultation.
Accompany victims to hospitals, police departments, Title IX hearings, court, and other community agencies or locations during regular and irregular hours which may occur on short notice. Offering the survivor information about forensic evidence collection, prophylaxis, law enforcement protocols, hospital protocols, survivors’ rights and community resources.
Assist survivors with NYS Office of Victim Services applications.
Complete all administrative tasks assigned on a timely basis, including but not limited to: documenting all activities (case notes) and inputting into the client database, preparing weekly and monthly activity reports, maintaining up-to-date calendar.
Communicate with District Attorney’s Office, hospitals, police stations, Crime Survivors Assistance counselors, Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and other human service agencies involved in survivors’ case; advocate for survivors’ needs within those systems.
Provide educational services to the community regarding Sexual Violence issues.
Assist Senior SAE (Sexual Assault Examiner) with duties including: SAE room compliance, forensic examiner training and forensic examiner on-call schedule.
Maintain survivor files.
Attend community awareness events.
Serve as an agency representative at local, regional and statewide meetings, coalitions and task forces.
Complete and maintain training certification as NYS DOH Rape Crisis Counselor.
Complete NYS Mandated Reporter training; report any behavior or implication of behavior of child abuse to the appropriate authorities.
Initiate partnerships with local colleges in order to develop and implement Enough is Enough Program.
Implement Enough is Enough program to address sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking on college campuses.
Per the terms of the Enough is Enough Law, prepare and conduct education and awareness events for local college students, faculty, staff, parents and the extended college community.
Function as primary liaison with college administration regarding Enough is Enough related activities. (including but not limited to Title IX hearings)
Develop relevant projects with colleges, create promotional materials for presentations to students, faculty, staff, parents and extended college community.
Provide advocacy, support and educational services in a manner which brings a social justice analysis with particular focus on sexism, Gender Based Violence, racial/socioeconomic disparities, and violence against women.
Participate in MHA’s committees as needed.
Assist with fundraisers and special events (some of these may be outside agency hours of operation).
