About The Position

The Victim Advocate is responsible for providing services to victims of domestic and sexual violence and their families. This includes victim assistance, community education, and volunteer management within the designated satellite center and service area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, or related field of study (Psychology, Sociology or Criminal Justice)
  • Must have experience with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
  • Reside in the Greater Darlington Area
  • Must be able to respond after hours to local hospitals to provide advocacy/support
  • Must be able to attend after hours events

Responsibilities

  • Assess client needs and provide services as needed.
  • Provide individual crisis and support group counseling for victims and their families.
  • Provide support services for victims and their families to include advocacy, hospital and court accompaniment, information and referral, and resource procurement.
  • Provide follow-up services to victims and their families.
  • Provide staff back-up for volunteer victim advocates at night and on weekends on a rotation basis.
  • Maintain and enter services into database on a daily basis.
  • Complete necessary reports as scheduled.
  • Schedule and manage volunteers.
  • Maintain and enter volunteer statistics into database on monthly basis.
  • Represent Pee Dee Coalition and take an active part in related community task forces, committees, etc.
  • Provide community education and awareness on the issues of domestic and sexual violence and program services as assigned.
  • Document all community education and submit reports according to organizational policy.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of activities for special awareness months (Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Assault Awareness, and Domestic Violence Awareness).
  • Actively distribute brochures, crisis cards, and materials throughout the community.
  • Assist with in-service trainings for professionals.
  • Be familiar with organizational goals and objectives and ensure compliance with required services and documentation.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff Manual, Program Procedures Manual, and Personnel Policies. Consult supervisor with questions.
  • Participate in staff development trainings as indicated by supervisor. Summarize information and report accordingly.
  • Perform administrative functions as appropriate for position and meet organizational deadlines as indicated.
  • Prepare monthly service/activity reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Obtain Victim Service Provider certification within first year of employment and maintain annually by securing appropriate number of training hours.
  • Assist with the general maintenance and upkeep of building.
  • Work independently with minimal on-site supervision while maintaining regular communication with supervisors and organizational leadership.
