About The Position

Coordinates and administers Victim Services activities including crisis intervention, advocacy, education, and information and referral for witnesses, families and victims of crime and trauma. Performs outreach to inform the community about program and services provided.

Requirements

  • Five years experience working with victims, witnesses, and their families in a law enforcement or other setting.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.
  • Valid Driver’s License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Knowledge of emergency services standards and methods.
  • Knowledge of the Hall County community including agencies and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as an instructor.
  • Ability to present programs to all elements of the community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Essential functions of this position continuously require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing); operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copier, and printer.
  • Incumbents must continuously be able to think analytically; handle stress and emotion, concentrate on tasks, remember names and other details; examine and observe details; make decisions, and adjust to change.
  • Incumbents must also continuously direct others; meet deadlines; stay organized; use math/calculations and use a keyboard/type.
  • Essential Functions frequently require the ability to move about inside the office; and move/transport items up to 10lbs.
  • Essential functions occasionally require the ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, and twisting at the waist, hips or knees; reach overhead; push or pull; and repetitively use hands/arms/legs.
  • Essential functions regularly require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use equipment.
  • Essential functions continuously require the ability to either work with others or work alone.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates a program of advocacy, education, and information regarding services available through the Victims Services Program and from other agencies/programs.
  • Responds to a variety of crime/trauma situations including homicide, aggravated or high profile robberies, fatality collisions, child deaths, suicides, aggravated assaults, family violence, hostage/barricade incidents, SWAT call outs, natural disasters, and child/elderly abuse or neglect.
  • Participates in interagency networking and coordinates with appropriate agencies such as the District Attorneys Office, DFCS, schools, medical services, and other service agencies.
  • Coordinates with the coroner’s office, medical personnel and other officials in death notifications and in providing follow-up services for survivors.
  • Conducts analysis of the program in order to assure effectiveness of the program and compliance with Criminal Justice Coordinating Council requirements and modifies as needed.
  • Provides specialized services for victims/survivors who speak foreign languages or who have special needs such as blindness, deafness, mental retardation or other disability.
  • Engages in crisis intervention activities.
  • Conducts victim/survivor assessment as a first responder to a crime/disaster scene; makes appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitates training on victomology, services available, types of victims, and expected impact and reactions to trauma.
  • Coordinates and provides training for department personnel, communications/media representatives, community groups, and other state and federal agencies.
  • Maintains the State administered database by tabulating and maintaining monthly victim services statistics.
  • Performs all correspondence duties related to the job.
  • Completes all required reports (state and county).
  • Files all victim compensation claims.
  • Performs other relevant work as assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
