About The Position

Will be responsible for providing one-on-one support and advocacy to victims of crime involved in the criminal justice system and family court system. The following services will be provided to victims and their families: Process LAP Line (Lethality Assessment Program) assessments from Law Enforcement agencies. Follow up with victims/complainants to assess needs Refer LAP Line victims/complainants to appropriate resources Assist with the drafting and filing of Family Court Petitions Liaising between victim and attorneys/courts Accompanying victims to court appearances and interviews Assistance in filing for victim compensation Advocate for personal property return Provide victim's rights materials Create safety plans with victims at risk of further harm Guidance writing/submitting victim impact statements Maintain appropriate documentation of services provided in a case management tracking system, statistical data collection, monthly and quarterly reporting as required Assistance and attendance at agency sponsored programming and events Daytime response to local emergency rooms for domestic violence and sexual assault cases Minimum of two eight-hour shifts on call required per month. Perform reasonably related duties as requested by supervisor(s)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred with a minimum of two years human services experience. Or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of four years human services experience
  • Knowledge of Criminal and/or Family Court systems and procedures
  • Familiarity with reading and/or drafting legal documents
  • Experience working directly with law enforcement
  • Sensitivity towards and understanding of victimization and trauma informed care
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Highly developed organizational skills, writing and communication skills necessary
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office needed
  • Education and commitment to issues of victimization is absolute
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner
  • Ability to work as a team within the criminal justice system
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License and insurance required
  • Must successfully complete 40-hour crisis line training after hired and an additional 10 training hours annually, provided by the agency.
