About The Position

Duchesne County is seeking a compassionate Victim Advocate to join the Duchesne County Victim Advocate Program. This role is dedicated to helping victims of violent crimes by educating them about their rights, acting as a liaison between various agencies, and providing on-scene crisis intervention and support. The advocate will connect victims with resources and long-term supportive services, develop community relations, and raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual crimes. The goal is to assist victims promptly and professionally, promote comprehensive services, increase victim safety, and provide support through recovery.

Requirements

Must be a compassionate citizen interested in helping those who have been victims of a crime.
Ability to educate victims of crime about their rights.
Ability to act as a liaison between the community, law enforcement, prosecutors, and courts.
Ability to provide on-scene crisis intervention, support, and assistance.
Ability to assess victims' safety and needs.
Ability to inform victims of available resources.
Ability to assist victims through the judicial process.
Ability to assess and review violent crime reports.
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships and confidentiality.
Ability to assist victims in preparing and filing legal forms.
Ability to attend court proceedings and testify as necessary.
Ability to track case information, document referrals, and write reports.
Ability to collect statistical information.
Ability to coordinate with various agencies and professionals.
Must be available for an on-call schedule.
Must be available to provide victim assistance outside of regular core hours.

Responsibilities

Educate victims of crime about their rights as described in the Victim's Rights Act.
Act as a liaison between the community, law enforcement, prosecutors, courts, etc.
Provide on-scene crisis intervention, support, and assistance to victims of crime and traumatic incidents.
Provide resources and referrals to long-term supportive services.
Develop community relations and raise awareness of victims of domestic violence and sexual crimes.
Help families access community resources, develop safety plans, and receive education.
Respond to hospitals, crime scenes, and other locations as requested to assist victims with crisis needs and provide emotional support.
Assess victims' safety and other needs, informing them of available resources and acting as a liaison in obtaining services.
Provide crisis intervention for victims.
Assist victims of crime through the judicial process by providing information regarding the legal process, investigation process, and resources such as shelter, treatment, education, legal assistance, and financial aid.
Assess and review violent crime reports and ensure victims are contacted within established time frames.
Serve as a liaison between the victim, the referring law enforcement agency, and the prosecuting attorney.
Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during work activities; maintain confidentiality.
Assist victims in preparing and filing protective orders, stalking injunctions, and other legal forms.
Attend applicable court proceedings, testify as necessary, and coordinate transportation of witnesses and/or victims and their families as needed.
Track case information, document referrals and other actions, and write reports on case progress.
Provide current address and phone number of victims to the Office of the County Attorney or Board of Pardons.
Collect statistical information for the Office of Crime Victim Reparations.
Conduct research and collect and prepare statistical information on violent crimes to assist in developing training agendas.
Coordinate with Juvenile Court, the Children's Justice Center, medical and mental health professionals, and other related persons or agencies regarding services provided to victims.
Provide victim assistance outside of regular core hours.
Be available on an on-call schedule for emergencies or requests for assistance outside of regular business hours.
Perform related duties as required to meet business needs.
