About The Position

Duchesne County is seeking a compassionate individual to join the Victim Advocate Program. This role involves educating victims of violent crimes about their rights, acting as a liaison between victims and various agencies (community, law enforcement, prosecutors, courts), and providing on-scene crisis intervention and support. The advocate will connect victims with resources and referrals for long-term services, develop community relations, and raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual crimes. The program aims to assist victims promptly and professionally, promote comprehensive services, increase victim safety, and provide guidance through recovery. The position requires ensuring work performance, effective time management, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Under the direction of the Victim Services Coordinator.
  • Educate victims of crime about their rights as described in the Victim's Rights Act.
  • Act as a liaison between the community, law enforcement, prosecutors, courts, etc.
  • Provide on-scene crisis intervention, support, and assistance to victims of crime and traumatic incidents.
  • Provide resources and referrals to long-term supportive services.
  • Develop community relations and raise awareness of victims of domestic violence and sexual crimes.
  • Help families access community resources, develop safety plans, and receive education.
  • Assist victims promptly, professionally, and efficiently.
  • Promote the development of comprehensive services to crime victims.
  • Increase the safety of victims and provide support and guidance through the various recovery steps involved in being a victim of crime.
  • Ensure work performance, effective time management practices, and attention to detail.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • On-call Schedule: A predetermined rotation of staff or volunteers available to respond to emergencies or requests for assistance outside of regular business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to hospitals, crime scenes, and other locations as requested by Duchesne County Sheriff's Office personnel to assist victims with crisis needs and provide emotional support.
  • Assess victims' safety and needs, inform them of available resources, and act as a liaison in obtaining services.
  • Provide crisis intervention for victims.
  • Assist victims through the judicial process by providing information regarding legal and investigation processes, and resources such as shelter, treatment, education, legal assistance, and financial aid.
  • Assess and review violent crime reports and ensure victims are contacted within established time frames.
  • Receive cases referred by the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office and serve as a liaison between the victim, the referring law enforcement agency, and the prosecuting attorney.
  • Act as a liaison between the victim, referring Deputy, and attorney.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during work activities and maintain confidentiality.
  • Educate victims regarding the legal process and their rights under the law.
  • Assist victims in preparing and filing protective orders, stalking injunctions, and other legal forms.
  • Attend applicable court proceedings, testify as necessary, and coordinate transportation of witnesses and/or victims and their families as needed.
  • Track case information, document referrals and other actions, and write reports on case progress.
  • Provide current address and phone number of victims to the Office of the County Attorney or Board of Pardons.
  • Collect statistical information for the Office of Crime Victim Reparations.
  • Conduct research and collect and prepare statistical information on violent crimes to assist in developing training agendas.
  • Coordinate with Juvenile Court, the Children's Justice Center, medical and mental health professionals, and other related persons or agencies regarding services provided to victims.
  • Provide victim assistance outside of regular core hours.
  • Be available on an on-call schedule for emergencies or requests for assistance outside of regular business hours.
  • Perform related duties as required to meet business needs.
