About The Position

Under limited supervision, provide notification and court accompaniment to victims regarding cases represented by the Office of the South Carolina Attorney General in prosecutorial matters. Assistance to victims is provided in a trauma-informed manner. Provides notification to victims of cases handled by the Office of the South Carolina Attorney General relating to prosecutorial matters (General Prosecution, ICAC, Vulnerable Adult, State Grand Jury) as mandated by statute, including, but not limited to, securing the Victim Impact Statement (VIS), providing notification of court proceedings, and advising of the victim’s rights to participate. Following case disposition, the appropriate post-adjudication agencies are provided with the victim's contact information and VIS. Accompany victims to court proceedings relating to the assigned caseload. Provide emotional/social support and information to ensure the victim understands case status, court procedures, and possible outcomes. Ensures the victim's input is communicated to the prosecutor. Maintain an accurate case record system. Documents files to ensure compliance with applicable laws. Confer with victims in person, by telephone, text message, or email regarding case status and/or needed services. Keeps apprised of victim-related statute changes, case law, and current best practices for victim services providers. Obtains the statutorily required educational credits for a Victim Service Provider and by the Department of Crime Victim Services Training, Provider Certification, and Statistical Analysis (CVST). Performs other related duties as assigned by the Division Director, Chief Deputy Attorney General, and/or Attorney General.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of victim advocacy experience.
• Position may require overnight travel.
• Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
• DRUG SCREENING, CREDIT CHECK, DELINQUENT TAX CHECK, SLED BACKGROUND CHECK, AND GRIEVANCE CHECK ARE REQUIRED.
