About The Position

The Vice President, Revenue Cycle Operations is responsible for the overall strategic direction, operational oversight, and performance of the revenue cycle functions across the organization. This role will lead a team of professionals to ensure efficient and effective management of all revenue cycle processes, from patient registration and insurance verification to billing, collections, and denial management. The VP will focus on optimizing cash flow, reducing accounts receivable days, minimizing bad debt, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. This position plays a critical role in the financial health and operational success of the organization, requiring a strong understanding of healthcare finance, payer dynamics, and process improvement methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (e.g., Director, Senior Manager).
  • Proven track record of success in optimizing revenue cycle performance, improving cash flow, and reducing A/R days and bad debt.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare billing, coding (ICD-10, CPT), reimbursement methodologies, and payer regulations (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers).
  • Strong understanding of healthcare finance principles and financial statement analysis.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and revenue cycle management (RCM) software systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and manage complex projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree (MHA, MBA, MPH) or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CRCE, FHFMA).
  • Experience in a multi-facility or large integrated health system.
  • Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement.
  • Experience with healthcare analytics and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to optimize the revenue cycle process, improve financial performance, and enhance patient experience.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the revenue cycle team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Oversee all revenue cycle functions, including patient access, registration, insurance verification, eligibility, charge capture, coding, billing, claims submission, payment posting, accounts receivable follow-up, denial management, and patient collections.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential risks.
  • Analyze revenue cycle data to identify root causes of issues, develop and implement corrective action plans, and drive performance improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, Medicare, and Medicaid guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Finance, Clinical Operations, Information Technology, and Legal, to ensure seamless integration and alignment of revenue cycle processes.
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts related to revenue cycle services.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes impacting the revenue cycle and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all revenue cycle-related matters, including audits and inquiries from payers and regulatory agencies.
