About The Position

BNY is seeking a Vice President, Product Designer to join its AI Hub team in New York, NY. The team brings design, product, and engineering together to co-create from a shared repository that serves as a single source of truth for outcomes, strategy, personas, prototypes, and other work. Designers may move from user research synthesis to a testable concept with stakeholders in a single day. The team is adapting to changes in product creation and using AI to make more time for deeply user-centric experiences and deliberate outcomes. The role designs clear experiences for complex systems, including multi-step workflows, cross-platform journeys, and enterprise-scale data. It drives concept development from research and outcomes through rapid prototyping, uses AI-assisted tools to bring design intent closer to working experiences, and owns end-to-end platform journeys across users, teams, and systems. The designer also contributes to a machine-readable design system in which tokens carry semantic meaning and patterns encode when and why they apply, supporting both AI agents and human developers. The role requires articulating design rationale and tradeoffs to product, engineering, and business audiences, and raising the quality of work through critique, collaboration, and example. A portfolio is required; the posting encourages evidence of how the candidate creates products with cross-functional partners, including processes, repositories, prototypes, decisions, complex systems thinking, and end-to-end journey work. BNY describes itself as a global financial services company and offers competitive compensation, benefits, wellbeing programs, and paid leaves. The position is based in New York, NY.

Requirements

  • Strong product design fundamentals, including research synthesis, interaction design, systems thinking, and visual craft.
  • Experience designing complex systems, such as enterprise software, multi-step workflows, or data-heavy interfaces.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where the problem is not already defined.
  • Ability to communicate design rationale to product, engineering, and business audiences and maintain a perspective under pressure.
  • Typically five or more years of experience, or equivalent demonstrated through portfolio and impact.
  • A portfolio is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using AI-assisted tools for building and prototyping, not only ideation.
  • Experience working in shared codebases or repositories with cross-functional teams, or actively moving in that direction.
  • Ability to describe how AI changed the approach to a design problem, rather than merely making the work faster.
  • Contributions to design systems at the pattern or systems level, beyond component execution.
  • Experience working at the intersection of design and technical implementation.
  • A process that produces working outcomes, not only documents.
  • Strong interest in and understanding of the opportunities AI creates for design.

Responsibilities

  • Design clear, user-centered experiences for complex systems, including multi-step workflows, cross-platform journeys, and enterprise-scale data.
  • Understand problems deeply and drive concept development from research and outcomes to testable prototypes.
  • Use AI-assisted tools to bridge the distance between design intent and working experiences.
  • Own end-to-end platform experiences and map journeys across users, teams, and systems.
  • Identify breakdowns and friction in experiences and determine what should be rebuilt or refined.
  • Contribute to a machine-readable design system, including its semantic tokens, patterns, and underlying rationale.
  • Communicate design decisions and tradeoffs to product managers, engineers, and business audiences.
  • Raise the standard of work through critique, collaboration, and example.
  • Provide a portfolio showing product creation, design decisions, and impact.
