About The Position

BNY is seeking a Vice President, Product Designer to join its AI Hub team in New York, NY. The role focuses on creating clear, user-centric experiences for complex systems, including multi-step workflows, cross-platform journeys, and enterprise-scale data. The designer will work closely with product and engineering in a shared repository that acts as a source of truth for outcomes, strategy, personas, prototypes, and other materials. The team uses AI-assisted tools to move from research and ideas to testable concepts and working experiences quickly. The role owns end-to-end platform experiences, contributes to a machine-readable design system, and communicates design decisions and tradeoffs to product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders. It also involves raising the quality of work through critique and collaboration, and mentoring by example. A portfolio is required, ideally showing how the candidate works with cross-functional teams from research through shippable products, along with complex systems thinking and evidence of design decisions and their impact. The role typically calls for five or more years of experience, or equivalent demonstrated through portfolio and impact. BNY offers competitive compensation, benefits, and wellbeing programs. Eligible employees may participate in a 401(k) plan and company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans, and may receive paid time off benefits. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award.

Requirements

  • Strong product design fundamentals, including research synthesis, interaction design, systems thinking, and visual craft.
  • Experience designing complex systems, such as enterprise software, multi-step workflows, or data-heavy interfaces.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where the problem is not fully defined in advance.
  • Ability to communicate design rationale to product, engineering, and business audiences and maintain a perspective under pressure.
  • A portfolio demonstrating relevant work is required.
  • Typically five or more years of experience, or equivalent demonstrated through portfolio and impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using AI-assisted tools for building and prototyping, not only ideation.
  • Experience working in shared codebases or repositories with cross-functional teams, or active progress toward that way of working.
  • Ability to describe how AI changed the approach to a design problem, rather than merely making the process faster.
  • Experience contributing to a design system at the pattern or systems level.
  • Experience working at the intersection of design and technical implementation.
  • Strong interest in and understanding of the opportunities AI creates for design.

Responsibilities

  • Design experiences that make complex systems, workflows, cross-platform journeys, and enterprise-scale data understandable to users.
  • Understand problems deeply before beginning design work.
  • Develop concepts from research and desired outcomes, using prototypes to demonstrate ideas quickly.
  • Use AI-assisted tools to bridge design intent and working experiences.
  • Own end-to-end experiences across users, teams, and systems; identify friction and determine what should be rebuilt or refined.
  • Contribute to a machine-readable design system by developing its semantic tokens, patterns, and underlying reasoning.
  • Explain design rationale and tradeoffs to product managers, engineers, business stakeholders, and other mixed audiences.
  • Raise the quality of work through critique, collaboration, and mentoring by example.

  • Competitive compensation
  • Benefits and wellbeing programs
