About The Position

BNY is seeking a Vice President, Product Designer to join its AI Hub team in New York, NY. The role focuses on creating user-centered product experiences for complex systems and workflows, using a collaborative approach in which design, product, and engineering co-create from a shared repository that acts as a source of truth for outcomes, strategy, personas, and prototypes. Designers rapidly move from research synthesis to testable concepts and use AI-assisted tools to bridge design intent and working experiences. The designer owns end-to-end platform experiences, clarifies complex workflows and data, and contributes to a machine-readable design system whose tokens and patterns are usable by both people and AI agents. The role also calls for communicating design decisions and tradeoffs to cross-functional audiences and raising the quality of work through critique and collaboration. Candidates must provide a portfolio demonstrating how they create products, ideally with evidence of collaboration from research through shippable work, along with complex systems thinking, end-to-end journeys, and the impact of design decisions. BNY offers competitive compensation, benefits, and wellbeing programs. The base salary is not specified in the supplied posting. Eligible employees may be able to enroll in a 401(k) and participate in company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans, and may receive paid time off and other benefits, subject to position and applicable plan terms.

Requirements

  • Strong product design fundamentals, including research synthesis, interaction design, systems thinking, and visual craft.
  • Experience designing complex systems, such as enterprise software, multi-step workflows, or data-heavy interfaces.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where the problem is not already defined.
  • Ability to communicate design rationale to product, engineering, and business audiences and maintain a perspective under pressure.
  • A portfolio demonstrating design work and impact.
  • Typically five or more years of experience, or equivalent demonstrated through portfolio and impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using AI-assisted tools for building and prototyping, beyond ideation.
  • Experience working in shared codebases or repositories with cross-functional teams, or active progress toward this approach.
  • Ability to describe how AI changed the approach to a design problem, rather than merely making it faster.
  • Experience contributing to a design system at the pattern or systems level.

Responsibilities

  • Design clear, user-centered experiences for complex systems, multi-step workflows, cross-platform journeys, and enterprise-scale data.
  • Understand problems deeply before designing solutions.
  • Develop concepts from research and outcomes and rapidly create prototypes to demonstrate possibilities.
  • Use AI-assisted tools to connect design intent with working experiences.
  • Own end-to-end platform experiences, mapping journeys across users, teams, and systems and identifying friction and opportunities to rebuild or refine.
  • Contribute to a machine-readable design system by developing its semantic tokens, patterns, and underlying design reasoning.
  • Communicate design rationale and tradeoffs to product managers, engineers, business partners, and other audiences.
  • Mentor and raise the quality of work through critique, collaboration, and example.
  • Provide a portfolio showing product creation, design decisions, complex systems thinking, and end-to-end journey work.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Wellbeing programs
  • Flexible global resources and tools
  • Paid leaves, including paid volunteer time
  • Eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) plan
  • Eligible employees may participate in company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans
