Vice President of Finance

Trajan Wealth LLCScottsdale, AZ
$225,000 - $290,000Onsite

About The Position

Trajan Wealth is seeking a Vice President of Finance with the leadership capability to build and scale a high-performing finance organization in a fast-paced, high-growth environment as the company expands nationally. This is a hands-on, transformational leadership role focused on building infrastructure and driving strategic growth. The firm has a talented in-house team of 5 employees with a heavy focus on accounting function. What it does not yet have is a true finance function: forward-looking planning, analysis, and executive reporting that leadership can make decisions with confidence. You will own both sides. You will take responsibility for accounting and the monthly close across three integrated businesses, and on top of that foundation you will build the financial planning, forecasting, and performance reporting layer the firm needs to scale to its next milestone. This role reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and partners directly with the CEO, the President, and the executive leadership team. It is deliberately positioned as Trajan Wealth's path to Chief Financial Officer. The leader who builds this function, earns the trust of the executive team, and delivers measurable results will be the firm's leading candidate for the CFO seat. The ideal candidate is a credentialed finance leader who is equally comfortable setting strategy with the CEO and getting into the detail of a consolidation, a forecast model, or a close calendar. In a firm at this stage, both are the job. This role would be 100% onsite.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
  • 12 or more years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including senior leadership roles
  • 7 or more years leading and developing a finance or accounting team
  • Multi-entity accounting and consolidation experience
  • Demonstrated FP&A ownership: budgets, forecasts, and management reporting you built that leadership actively used to make decisions
  • Proven ability to operate in a high-growth, entrepreneurial, owner-led environment
  • Strong systems capability, including general ledger platforms, reporting and business intelligence tools, and producing reliable reporting from multiple source systems
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence at every level of the organization

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred
  • Oracle NetSuite experience preferred
  • Experience in an RIA, wealth management firm, or comparable financial services or professional services environment
  • Familiarity with advisory fee billing, custodian platforms, and revenue tied to assets under management
  • Mergers and acquisitions due diligence and post-close integration experience a plus
  • Track record scaling a finance function through rapid organic growth or serial acquisition
  • Public accounting foundation

Responsibilities

  • Build the FP&A function from the ground up: annual budget, rolling forecast, and driver-based financial models across all entities
  • Produce a monthly management reporting package the executive team runs the business on, including actual versus budget by department, cash flow, and rolling twelve-month trends
  • Build and maintain KPI dashboards that track leading indicators, not only lagging results
  • Model the economics of growth decisions: labor increase based on growth, office expansion, marketing spend by market, and revenue mix
  • Lead internal team on accounting across all entities: general ledger, revenue recognition on advisory fee billing, payroll, accounts payable, and multi-entity consolidation
  • Utilize systems and automation to increase efficiencies with monthly close process
  • Establish internal controls, documentation, and audit-ready records that scale with the firm
  • With support of internal accounting team, own the chart of accounts and departmental cost structure so that reporting rolls up cleanly and consistently
  • Own cash flow forecasting, liquidity, and working capital management
  • Drive capital allocation: what gets funded, on what expected return, and measured against that expectation
  • Own profitability analysis by entity, department, territory, and advisor
  • Identify and remove cost, including vendor contracts, processing fees, and spend that is not earning its return
  • Lead financial due diligence on acquisition opportunities, including advisory, estate and and tax practices
  • Model financial structures, including purchase price, earnouts, clawbacks, and client retention economics
  • Own finance-side integration after close and measure acquired books of business against the original underwriting
  • Partner with the Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel as required
  • Manage relationships with banking partners, custodians, third-party administrators, outside auditors, and tax advisors
  • Lead, coach, and develop the finance and accounting team to ensure scalability of growth
  • The ability to guide, influence, and inspire team to work together toward a common goal
  • Communicate clearly with team, as well as, the CEO, the President, and the executive team
  • Serve as a business partner to department leaders, not a scorekeeper

  • 401(k) with a company matching contribution of up to 13 percent
  • United Healthcare PPO medical coverage for employees, paid by the company
