Code MetalSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

About Code Metal Code Metal is redefining code translation for mission-critical industries, helping defense partners move more quickly and reliably from algorithm to silicon. Our platform accelerates deployment of DSP, RF, communications, and embedded signal processing algorithms onto heterogeneous compute targets, including GPUs, FPGAs, ASICs, and edge SoCs. We also support automotive, aerospace, and semiconductor partners deploying complex algorithms onto constrained hardware with speed and rigor. The Role: We need a "builder" in the truest sense. You will be responsible for taking our current foundation and architecting a world-class finance function. You’ll be the right hand to the leadership team, ensuring we have the capital, discipline, and strategic insight to scale from $10M to $100M+. This isn't a "sit back and manage" role. We need someone scrappy, hard-working, and deeply technical who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty with accounting entries one hour and lead a board-level strategic planning session the next.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3+ years in a high-growth startup leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in core financial metrics & KPIs and hardware/edge-related business models.
  • Strong proficiency in modern finance stacks (e.g., NetSuite/Rillet, Rippling, Ramp, Mosaic, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills - able to distill complex financial data into actionable insights for the Board and the team.
  • Startup Veteran: You’ve been in the trenches. You have a proven track record of scaling a company from the $10M mark through significant growth phases.
  • Scrappy & Driven: You don't wait for a manual; you write it. You thrive in fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environments and possess a "no task is too small" attitude.
  • Big Picture & Detail Oriented: You can both speak to a long-range plan, but also put in place the operational building blocks to support the business through that growth.
  • Technically-Minded: You have a genuine interest in (or experience with) AI and deep tech. You can speak the language of our engineers and understand the unit economics of AI infrastructure.
  • Accounting Expert: You may have started in accounting or have a CPA, but more importantly, you understand the "why" behind the numbers and can build a robust compliance foundation.
  • Team-First: You are a low-ego, high-output collaborator who cares deeply about the mission and the people.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the financial transition from an early-stage startup to a scaled enterprise, managing everything from bookings, backlog, and revenue forecasting to complex cap table management.
  • Build and oversee the entire accounting function (AP/AR, payroll, tax, audit). You’ll ensure our books are "Big Four" ready while maintaining startup agility.
  • Manage burn, optimize runway, and partner with the CEO on future fundraising rounds and investor relations.
  • Leverage your technical background to implement cutting-edge AI tools to automate internal workflows, making our finance department a model of efficiency.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Sales to align product milestones with financial targets and go-to-market strategies.

Benefits

  • Pay depends on experience, but we strive to be at the upper end of the salary range
  • Health care plan with 100% premium coverage, including medical, dental, and vision
  • 401k with 5% matching
  • Paid Time Off (uncapped vacation, plus sick and public holidays)
  • Flexible hybrid or remote work arrangement
  • Relocation assistance for qualifying employees
