Position Summary: The Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the senior financial leader of the organization, providing strategic oversight and operational leadership for all financial functions including budgeting, accounting, accounts payable/receivable, investments, and contract and asset management. This role partners closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and executive leadership to ensure the organization’s fiscal health and alignment with its mission and long-term objectives. The CFO is responsible for budget planning and forecasting, financial compliance, strategic financial planning, and optimizing systems and resources to support business growth. The CFO also oversees large-scale capital projects and works to enhance organizational sustainability through sound financial stewardship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPA credential or equivalent certification required.
  • 10+ years of senior financial leadership experience in a healthcare or nonprofit setting.
  • Experience leading collective bargaining negotiations within a unionized environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in behavioral health and managed care strongly preferred.
  • Experience in financing capital markets and managing large-scale capital projects is preferred.
  • Experience with scalable organizational growth through organic, mergers, acquisitions

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership on all financial matters including revenue, expenses, investments, and capital planning.
  • Analyze, monitor, and communicate the organization’s financial position through financial statements, rolling forecasts, and other reporting tools.
  • Lead the organization’s budget development, oversight, and management, including cash flow, investments, and banking relationships.
  • Supervise the Controller and other accounting staff to ensure timely and accurate budget preparation, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Maintain and enhance fiscal control systems and policies in alignment with GAAP and nonprofit regulatory standards.
  • Present annual budgets and monthly financial updates to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of all compliance documents including audits, tax returns, and regulatory filings.
  • Utilizes financial software to improve financial forecasting predictions and analysis
  • Advise the CEO, executive leadership, and Board Finance/HR Committee on financial risks, opportunities, and planning scenarios.
  • Represent the organization on financial matters internally and externally; delegate participation as appropriate.
  • Lead and provide insight during union negotiations and work within the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Stay current on financial regulations, economic trends, and healthcare reimbursement environments that may impact fiscal operations.
  • Oversee and manage operational budgets for assets such as real estate, IT infrastructure, facilities, and major capital purchases.
  • Sign off on key documents and financial transactions as an officer of the organization.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the departments of Finance, Accounting, Contracts & Managed Care, and Revenue Cycle (AP/AR/Billing).
  • Maintain a trauma informed environment of wellbeing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
