About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody values of excellence, compassion, teamwork, and purpose to join their Indiana University Health Medical Group’s leadership team in the role of Vice Chair of Clinical and Academic Administration, Ophthalmology. This role reports to the Department Chair, with a dotted line to the IU Executive Associate Dean for Finance and Administration and the IU Health Physicians (IUHP) Chief Operating Officer. The Vice Chair is responsible for directing and managing the administrative, fiscal, research, education, and clinical operations of the department to support the missions of the IU School of Medicine (IUSoM) and IU Health Physicians in education, clinical service, and research. The position involves significant input into departmental and clinical policies and procedures, based on a thorough understanding of the department's functions. In partnership with the Department Chair, the Vice Chair develops and implements strategic plans and initiatives. Key responsibilities include implementing IUHP, IUSoM, and Indiana University policies and procedures; preparing and analyzing budgets and financial reports; administering personnel policies; designing and implementing administrative systems; leading quality improvement activities; managing department equipment and supplies; ensuring compliance; overseeing IT security; and managing space allocation, maintenance, and renovation of the department's physical environment. This leader must possess a broad range of skills, exercise considerable judgment and initiative, and work collaboratively with the Department Chair to align departmental goals with those of the School of Medicine, Indiana University, IU Health, and IU Health Physicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration or a related area is required.
  • Requires 5-8 years of progressively responsible experience in financial and clinical group practice administration.
  • Requires 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires knowledge and experience in finance; operations; strategic planning and community relations, preferably in an academic health system.
  • Requires well-developed administrative and management skills including demonstrated knowledge of group practice management.
  • Requires knowledge of State and Federal regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Requires knowledge and commitment to service excellence and a patient-centered focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Business Administration or Master's degree in Health Administration strongly preferred.
  • MS Office including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, computer skills, and database knowledge highly desired.

Responsibilities
