About The Position

Sony Pictures Imageworks is seeking a VFX Trainer to join their Learning and Development team. This role reports to the Director of L&D and is responsible for onboarding and new starter training. The VFX Trainer acts as a key point of contact for new hires during their first week, conducting in-person training, supporting remote hires online, and managing training through the company's online platform.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in teaching, both in-person and online, with a passion for creating a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Deep knowledge of CG film production pipelines.
  • Proficiency with 3D animation software such as Maya, Katana, Houdini, Blender, Nuke, Substance, Mari, Unreal, and Linux.
  • At least 5 years of experience in CG production within a 3D animation studio.
  • Ability to ask questions to understand training needs and develop effective programs.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Experience working in global teams and building strong relationships across different cultures.
  • Experience resolving technical/pipeline issues in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and thrive in a busy work environment.
  • Experience with documentation platforms like Confluence and Google Docs.
  • Proactive approach to learning and staying updated with new information.
  • Resourceful in utilizing content streams and learning from others.
  • Graduation from a relevant program in 3D animation.

  • Experience as a change advocate and identifying opportunities to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate industry-leading training for new starters in all departments.
  • Keep process documentation up-to-date, especially for new starter training.
  • Collect feedback on completed training to evaluate results and suggest improvements.
  • Provide feedback to Assistant Managers (AMs) on new hire progress.
  • Support new hires as they transition onto their shows.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Department and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure training content is current and tweak curriculums as needed.
  • Create training videos, documentation, and courses.
  • Support the Learning Management System (LMS) by managing licenses, adding content, assigning courses, and tracking progress.
  • Maintain and create training documentation on Confluence for teams or the entire studio.
  • Participate in L&D team meetings, updates, and contribute to a positive team environment.
