About The Position

Dakota County Technical College seeks a temporary, part-time Veterinary Technology Instructor to serve as the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) faculty for the Veterinary Technology Program. The instructor will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and a desire to contribute to a creative, vibrant, student-centered learning community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives. Faculty members at Dakota County Technical College are professionally active practitioners and scholars who participate in departmental and campus-wide activities to enhance their disciplines, promote interdisciplinary discourse and collaboration, and advance the college mission. The college is committed to reflecting a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds among its administrators, faculty, and staff. This temporary, part-time assignment includes teaching VET 2131: Veterinary Surgical Nursing & Dentistry during the 2026–2027 academic year. The teaching load is anticipated to be 9 credits per term in both the fall and spring semesters. The assignment start date is August 24, 2026. Instruction will be delivered in person at Dakota County Technical College, with scheduled class times on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition to instructional responsibilities, faculty may be asked to support Animal Care Duty (ACD) shifts outside of scheduled teaching hours. These shifts may occur on various days, Monday through Sunday, and typically range from 2 to 4 hours in duration.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in veterinary technology from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program or doctorate in veterinary medicine.
  • Three full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in veterinary medicine or technology.
  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
  • Current Minnesota certification as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or current Minnesota license as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.).
  • Current Minnesota license as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.), required to serve as DVM faculty for the Veterinary Technology Program.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Veterinary Technology curriculum, including lecture, laboratory, clinical, and hands-on instructional activities related to veterinary surgical nursing and dentistry.
  • Provide instruction in areas such as surgical preparation, anesthesia monitoring, sterile technique, patient care, dental procedures, dental charting, instrumentation, radiography support, post-operative care, and related veterinary nursing competencies.
  • Prepare students to meet program outcomes and expectations for safe, ethical, and professional practice in veterinary medical settings.
  • Promote safety in all aspects of program activities, including animal handling, laboratory instruction, surgical and dental procedures, equipment use, and clinical learning environments.
  • Support student learning through instructional planning, curriculum development, student evaluation, timely feedback, and maintenance of accurate student records.
  • Prepare and manage classroom, laboratory, surgical, dental, and animal care learning environments.
  • Work effectively as a member of the Veterinary Technology department and collaborate with faculty, staff, program leadership, and external partners as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional skills, credentials, and current knowledge of veterinary medical practice, surgical nursing, dentistry, anesthesia, animal care, and veterinary technician education.
  • Participate in professional development experiences and college or program activities as assigned.
  • Support departmental operations related to teaching and learning, including student advising, assessment of student learning, program accreditation support, and continuous improvement activities as appropriate for the assignment.
