About The Position

Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Shelbyville is accepting applications for a Full-Time Electrician Technology Instructor. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, at the Shelbyville campus.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (HiSET acceptable).
  • Limited Licensed Electrician (LLE) or equivalent credential.
  • Working knowledge of NEC.
  • Three (3) or more years of approved work experience in residential, commercial, or industrial electrical work.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Proficiency in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical industry principles, practices, tools, and equipment.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with both high school and adult learners.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and perform essential job functions, including standing, walking, and demonstrating occupational tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Postsecondary diploma or A.A.S. in Electrical Systems or related field preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of approved work experience in residential, commercial, or industrial electrical work preferred.
  • Technical teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts of alternative energy, including solar power generation and EV charging technologies a plus.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling and policy a plus.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized classroom and lab instruction to high school and adult students preparing for careers in the electrical field.
  • Demonstrate and explain electrical theory, wiring methods, circuitry, installation, and troubleshooting in residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
  • Instruct students in electrical safety, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
  • Monitor, grade, and evaluate student progress.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit timely reports.
  • Assist with student recruitment, job placement, and post-completion follow-up.
  • Supervise students participating in cooperative education.
  • Maintain positive relationships with business and industry and support an active advisory board.
