Veterinary Technician OVERNIGHT ICU
About The Position
Veterinary Specialty Hospital (VSH) Sorrento Valley is looking for full-time Veterinary Technicians to join their overnight ICU Critical Care team. As the only VECCS Level I Trauma Center in San Diego County, the ECC department is committed to caring for the veterinary trauma patient and is equipped to expertly manage all types of traumatic injuries in a state-of-the-art facility. The ECC nursing staff are an integral part of providing this level of care. Experience working in an environment that encourages collaboration and growth alongside 3 board certified criticalists, ECC residents, and experienced ER clinicians allows for an environment of continual learning and advanced skill development for all members of the ECC team at VSH.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital setting required
- 2 years ECC experience required
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is required
- Positive outlook and ability to work well in a collaborative environment

Responsibilities
- Collecting samples, placing IV catheters, prepare IV fluids and additives, obtain arterial blood gas samples
- Calculating and administering medication, fluid additives, CRI's
- Obtaining and reporting vitals, monitoring telemetry, monitor oxygen dependent patients
- Placement and maintenance of nasogastric tube, nasal cannula, central venous catheters
- Prioritize patient hourly treatments and delegate tasks
- Triage critical patients
- Recognize changes in patient status and report to doctor
- Educate/update owners on patient status
- Discharge patients from the hospital
