About The Position

Elk Creek Animal Hospital of Hikes Point is hiring a Licensed/Registered Veterinary Technician. We are a two-doctor small animal practice offering 4-day workweeks with time to get home for dinner with your family. Our Hikes Point location is one of Elk Creek Animal Hospital's three locations providing candidates the opportunity to explore our other locations if interested and an opportunity for additional hours if desired. We believe you can provide excellent patient care and have a life outside the hospital.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician or equivalent education/training
  • Proficient in animal handling, and animal restraint techniques
  • Experience with animal catheterization and administering medications
  • Familiarity with veterinary software systems for record-keeping

  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
  • Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection
  • Run in-house laboratory testing (CBC/chemistry, urinalysis, cytology, fecals, etc.)
  • Support surgical and dental procedures (prep, monitoring, recovery, instrument care)
  • Monitor anesthesia and patient vitals during procedures
  • Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery of patients
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterility of surgical instruments and equipment
  • Educate and communicate with clients on patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and preventative care
  • Accurately document patient care and treatments in the medical record
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain an efficient workflow and positive hospital culture
  • Safe and effective patient handling and restraint
  • Knowledge of preventative care and vaccines
  • Attentive induction, monitoring, and recovery of surgical patients
  • Emergency and surgical care - including IV catheter placement and intubation
  • Obtaining diagnostics - including radiographs, phlebotomy, and sample collection, and performing in-house lab work
  • Professional, compassionate communication with clients and staff
  • Succinct documentation of patient records and client interactions
