Requirements

  • Experience as a veterinary technician (vet tech) in a small animal practice
  • Confident venipuncture and IV catheter placement skills
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical patient care
  • Proficiency with in-house laboratory procedures and diagnostic sample handling
  • Experience taking radiographs
  • Strong animal handling and restraint skills, with a low-stress approach
  • Knowledge of medication calculations and administration
  • Excellent client communication and education skills
  • Accurate, detailed medical record-keeping
  • The ability to anticipate needs and work efficiently in a busy practice
  • A positive, team-first attitude grounded in teamwork and mutual respect
  • Eagerness to keep learning and growing
  • Availability for rotating Saturday shifts

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to every patient
  • Work closely with veterinarians and anticipate their needs to keep appointments and procedures running efficiently
  • Obtain patient histories, TPRs, and weights, and share relevant findings with the veterinarian
  • Safely handle and restrain patients using low-stress techniques
  • Perform venipuncture, place IV catheters, and collect diagnostic samples
  • Run in-house laboratory tests, including bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal exams, and cytology prep
  • Take and assist with radiographs
  • Administer medications, vaccines, fluids, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
  • Prepare patients for surgery and support anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Assist with dental cleanings and dental radiographs
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes or concerns right away
  • Fill prescriptions accurately and explain medication instructions to clients
  • Listen to clients and communicate clearly about their pet’s care
  • Educate clients about treatments, preventive care, and their pet’s ongoing health needs
  • Maintain accurate, thorough medical records
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment
  • Keep treatment areas, exam rooms, and equipment clean, stocked, and ready to go
  • Support teammates with a positive, collaborative approach
  • Keep learning and growing veterinary technician skills
