About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join their team in Madison, WI. This role supports the Veterinarian by performing various procedures including radiographs, collecting samples, routine animal care, physical exams, monitoring animal health, and other veterinary laboratory procedures. The technician will also assist with surgical requirements outside of the surgery suite, ensuring compliance with SOPs, protocols, and regulatory guidelines. Key responsibilities include maintaining animal care standards, performing husbandry duties, reporting and resolving animal care concerns, interpreting study protocols, applying good research practices (GxP), reviewing documentation for QA audits, maintaining client confidentiality, utilizing computer software for study activities, conducting study procedures, administering medication, performing physical exams, dosing, sample collection, restraint techniques, assisting with euthanasia, surgical prep, anesthesia, and surgical procedures. The role also involves effective time and resource management, supporting other departments, gaining knowledge of ACUA and IACUC activities, and building positive relationships with veterinary staff and other teams. Participation in process improvement projects is also expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences field (e.g., Biology, Wildlife, Pre-veterinary, Zoology, Genetics, Environmental Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline), OR an Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and 6 months or more of hands-on experience in Life Sciences (such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, or animal science) that provides the knowledge and skills required for the role.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months or more experience in an animal related field.
  • CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician.
  • 6 months or more experience in a vivarium setting with familiarity in animal welfare standards (IACUC, AAALAC, or similar guidelines).

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiographs, collect blood and fecal samples.
  • Perform routine animal care procedures such as dog dentals and physical exams.
  • Monitor animal health and perform other veterinary laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with surgical requirements (non-surgery suite).
  • Ensure animal care complies with regulatory guidelines and ethical standards.
  • Perform animal husbandry duties as needed.
  • Report and assist in resolving animal care concerns.
  • Interpret and follow basic study protocols.
  • Apply good research practices (GxP) principles.
  • Review documentation and understand QA audit requirements.

  • Perform medicant administration, physical exams, dosing, sample collection, and restraint techniques.
  • Assist with euthanasia methods, surgical prep, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
  • Manage time and resources effectively.
  • Support other departments with study-related tasks (e.g., restraint, blood collection).
  • Gain knowledge of ACUA and IACUC activities.
  • Build positive relationships with veterinary staff and other teams.
  • Participate in process improvement projects as needed.
