About The Position

Coulter Animal Hospital is a long-standing general practice hospital with deep ties to the community, located in beautiful Amarillo, Texas. Our goal is to provide compassionate and quality medicine while striving to make an impact in our community and treat our patients/clients like family. We are seeking an experienced veterinary technician who enjoys a collaborative teamwork atmosphere to work with two General Medicine Veterinarians. The General Medicine Technician position is a very demanding job that consists of, not only assisting but preparing all aspects the veterinarian will need in the clinic, radiology, surgery, and any other areas of the hospital as needed. This newly opened position provides veterinary support in the examination room with outpatient and in-patient procedures, assists with case management of animals admitted to the hospital, communicates with clients, and sometimes refers veterinarians. Kindness, care for animals, and respect for the client are cornerstones of this department and of our value-based organization. Requirements

  • Must be dependable, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Must be able to efficiently perform venipuncture, catheter placement, and analyze fecal samples.
  • Must be able to perform blood work, position and acquire radiographs, give injectable and oral medications, drug dose calculations, and be well versed in critical care medicine.
  • Must understand fluid therapy and how to administer anesthesia and oxygen therapy.
  • Must possess the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, and move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to stay on task and work energetically for the entire shift, sometimes exceeding 12 hours per day.
  • The shift does not end until all duties are completed.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting veterinarians and preparing all aspects they will need in the clinic, radiology, surgery, and any other areas of the hospital as needed.
  • Providing veterinary support in the examination room with outpatient and in-patient procedures.
  • Assisting with case management of animals admitted to the hospital.
