About The Position

The Small Animal Internal Medicine Service at UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) is seeking passionate Veterinary Technicians to join their growing team. This role is ideal for both new Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) graduates and experienced technicians. UWVC is a nationally recognized veterinary teaching hospital that fosters continuous learning. The position offers the opportunity to expand clinical expertise, mentor others, and provide exceptional patient care in a dynamic environment. The role involves providing skilled technical support for the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service, with occasional assistance in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Intermediate Care Ward (ICW). Technicians will collaborate with board-certified specialists, residents, interns, and veterinary students, working with a diverse range of complex cases. This is a 100% FTE (40 hours a week) position, with an anticipated schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently
  • Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks
  • Proven proficiency with IV catheter placements
  • Proven proficiency with sedation administration and monitoring
  • Proven knowledge of basic nursing skills
  • Experience with client communication
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) Required
  • High School Diploma Required

Responsibilities

  • Completes routine laboratory tests and collects specimen according to established medical orders and care plans (10%)
  • Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions (10%)
  • Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing (20%)
  • Monitors animal health status and records, notifies veterinarian when status changes, and ensures care plans are completed and recorded in the medical record (10%)
  • Tracks supply inventory levels and places replenishment orders (10%)
  • Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities (10%)
  • Assists with the execution of more complex animal care procedures and affiliated activities (15%)
  • Prepares, completes, and documents basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity (15%)
