About The Position

The Small Animal Internal Medicine Service at UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) is seeking passionate Veterinary Technicians to join their growing team. This role is ideal for both new Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) graduates and experienced technicians. UWVC is a nationally recognized veterinary teaching hospital that emphasizes continuous learning, mentorship, and exceptional patient care. The position is 100% FTE (40 hours per week) with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently
  • Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks
  • Proven proficiency with IV catheter placements
  • Proven proficiency with sedation administration and monitoring
  • Proven knowledge of basic nursing skills
  • Experience with client communication
  • High School Diploma
  • Eligibility to work in the United States on or before the effective date of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled technical support for the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service.
  • Occasionally assist in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Intermediate Care Ward (ICW).
  • Work alongside board-certified specialists, residents, interns, and veterinary students.
  • Build clinical expertise while caring for a wide variety of complex and rewarding cases.
  • Strengthen nursing skills, collaborate with multiple specialty services, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their owners.
  • Completes routine laboratory tests and collects specimen according to established medical orders and care plans (10%)
  • Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions (10%)
  • Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing (20%)
  • Monitors animal health status and records, notifies veterinarian when status changes, and ensures care plans are completed and recorded in the medical record (10%)
  • Tracks supply inventory levels and places replenishment orders (10%)
  • Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities (10%)
  • Assists with the execution of more complex animal care procedures and affiliated activities (15%)
  • Prepares, completes, and documents basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity (15%)
