About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a skilled & compassionate part-time veterinary technician on our Overnight Emergency team in Framingham, MA! This role involves inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia, triaging emergency cases, performing digital radiography, and monitoring patient vital signs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of normal patient vital signs, be able to identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR, and accurately calculate medical math for medication administration. Proficiency in phlebotomy, placing intravenous catheters, and feeding tubes/central line catheters is required. A passion for mentoring and training co-workers, along with patience and empathy for clients, is also essential.

Requirements

  • Skilled & compassionate veterinary technician
  • Experience with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Proficiency in triaging emergency cases and obtaining vital signs
  • Experience with digital radiography and patient positioning
  • Understanding of normal patient vital signs
  • Ability to interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes
  • Ability to identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR
  • Proficiency in medical math calculations, including constant rate infusions
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters
  • Ability to place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters

Responsibilities

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
  • Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
  • Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
