About The Position

Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Eatontown, NJ is looking for Veterinary Technicians to join their busy Overnight ER department. This role involves working among a dedicated team of technicians and doctors, developing close relationships while performing veterinary medicine. The hospital is a multispecialty practice with boarded veterinary specialists in Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Dermatology, Cardiology, and Ophthalmology. They have been treating felines with hyperthyroid disease with radioactive iodine since 2001 and have technicians with VTS certifications. GSVS aims to provide a safe and supportive space for staff to utilize and develop their skills within a collaborative, fun, and friendly team environment. The position offers access to advanced diagnostic tools and involves working alongside specialists.

Requirements

  • CVT/LVT/RVT preferred, or a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a technician
  • VTS highly regarded
  • Comprehensive understanding of and experience with anesthetic monitoring
  • Proficiency in processing basic laboratory specimens
  • Working knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Understanding of normal vs abnormal physiologic ranges
  • Commitment to help mentor and train veterinary assistants
  • Ability to work well in a highly collaborative environment
  • Commitment to develop long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and community
  • Positive outlook and friendly, team-orientated attitude
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist with general anesthesia and sedated procedures
  • Sedation
  • Induction/Maintenance
  • Instrument care and sterilization
  • Set up CRIs and calculate medical math
  • Place IV catheters and institute fluid therapy
  • Position appropriately for radiographs and understand radiation safety
  • Provide quality, compassionate nursing care for hospitalized patients
  • Prepare and administer transfusions: Blood and Plasma
  • Maintain accurate treatment sheets
  • Obtain and prepare various blood samples for diagnostic testing
  • Use of mechanical ventilators for anesthesia
  • Provide client education on a wide range of at home care
