About The Position

Washington Blvd Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Overnight Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to join their team in Whittier, California. This role involves providing attentive overnight nursing care, following detailed treatment plans, and ensuring the safety and comfort of patients. The position requires confidence in working independently while also maintaining close communication with doctors, leadership, and the medical team. The hospital is open seven days a week, and the overnight team is crucial for maintaining continuity of care for hospitalized, surgical, and emergency patients.

Requirements

Previous veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience
Knowledge of veterinary medicine and terminology
Experience with emergency, surgical, and hospitalized patient care
Strong verbal and written communication skills
The ability to work effectively during overnight hours
Confidence following treatment plans and recognizing changes in patient condition
A positive, supportive, and team-oriented approach
Patience, kindness, and compassion in challenging situations
A commitment to continued learning and sharing knowledge with others
The ability to build strong working relationships with teammates, doctors, and leadership

Responsibilities

Follow digital treatment plans prescribed by the attending veterinarian
Provide safe, effective patient handling and low-stress restraint
Administer medications, injections, sedation, and nursing care as directed
Place intravenous catheters and support emergency and surgical care
Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in patient status
Administer and monitor general anesthesia when required and within your training and scope
Collect diagnostic samples through venipuncture, cystocentesis, fecal collection, and other approved methods
Perform in-house laboratory diagnostics, including urinalysis and cytology
Process samples using in-hospital laboratory equipment
Assist with blood transfusions and advanced nursing procedures
Take diagnostic radiographs
Maintain accurate and complete digital medical records
Sterilize surgical instruments and manage autoclave and ethylene oxide equipment appropriately
Monitor surgical inventory and ensure necessary supplies are available
Maintain clean treatment areas, patient wards, and workspaces
Follow infectious disease, biomedical waste, and medical waste protocols
Complete laundry, sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and other hospital upkeep duties
