About The Position

Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham (VSB) is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Overnight Emergency & ICU team in Birmingham, AL. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced emergency environment, enjoy utilizing advanced technical skills, and want to work alongside a collaborative team dedicated to exceptional patient care. The position involves providing exceptional nursing care to emergency and critically ill patients while supporting veterinarians in a fast-paced specialty hospital.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of Veterinary Technician experience in General Practice or Emergency Veterinary Medicine required
• Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) preferred
• Strong technical skills including venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, anesthesia support, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory procedures
• Knowledge of veterinary pharmacology and medication calculations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced emergency environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to exceptional patient care
• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with emergency patient assessments, treatments, and procedures
• Monitor hospitalized Emergency and ICU patients and promptly communicate changes in patient status
• Perform venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, and laboratory sample collection
• Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
• Provide anesthesia support and patient monitoring during emergency procedures
• Perform diagnostic imaging and assist with laboratory testing
• Calculate medication dosages accurately and maintain detailed medical records
• Deliver compassionate nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Communicate professionally with clients regarding patient status and treatment plans
• Collaborate with Veterinary Technicians, veterinarians, and support staff to provide exceptional patient care
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment area
