Requirements

  • Veterinary Technician license or substantial surgical veterinary technician experience
  • Previous experience assisting with surgical procedures and anesthesia monitoring
  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory procedures, and patient nursing
  • Confidence monitoring anesthesia and recognizing changes in patient condition
  • A commitment to practicing Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques
  • Excellent communication and client education skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospital
  • A positive attitude and collaborative approach to teamwork
  • Confidence taking ownership of responsibilities and following cases through to completion
  • A desire to continue learning and growing professionally

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures from preparation through recovery
  • Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and equipment
  • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia while closely observing patient vital signs
  • Perform venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and sample collection
  • Administer medications, treatments, and fluid therapy as directed
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including surgical site preparation
  • Monitor hospitalized and surgical patients throughout their stay
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging as needed
  • Maintain sterile technique and proper instrument care
  • Accurately document treatments, anesthesia records, and medical notes
  • Educate clients regarding surgical procedures, medications, discharge instructions, and postoperative care
  • Practice Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques to promote positive patient experiences
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians and fellow team members to provide outstanding patient care
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment and surgical areas
  • Support daily hospital operations while promoting a positive team environment
