About The Position

Southern Colorado Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology (SCVIM) is seeking a Veterinary Technician for its Overnight ICU. This role offers the opportunity to advance inpatient, emergency, and critical care skills in a fast-paced specialty environment, working alongside an experienced clinical team dedicated to exceptional patient care. SCVIM is one of the largest veterinary internal medicine and specialty hospitals in the country and is recognized for its leadership and culture. The hospital is growing, leading to an expansion of the ICU team to support overnight care and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years veterinary experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, medication administration, and patient restraint.
  • Knowledge of fluid therapy, radiology safety, and basic emergency protocols.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions under pressure.
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required; multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • RVT/LVT/CVT preferred but not required.
  • Specialty, emergency, or inpatient ICU experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and critical patient care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate nursing care to ICU and hospitalized patients throughout treatment and recovery.
  • Triage incoming ICU cases from multiple referral and specialty services.
  • Place IV catheters, perform venipuncture, and collect blood samples.
  • Administer medications via SQ, IM, and IV routes and manage IV fluid therapy.
  • Perform advanced patient monitoring, including vital signs and clinical status changes.
  • Monitor anesthesia and assist with emergency and surgical procedures as needed.
  • Assist with placement and management of urinary catheters, oxygen support, and feeding tubes.
  • Monitor ECGs and other patient monitoring equipment.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures including radiographs and in-house laboratory testing.
  • Provide post-operative and critical care support for hospitalized patients.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and treatment documentation.
  • Communicate patient updates clearly with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and clients.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked ICU environment.
  • Support hospital flow by assisting with patient handling, restraint, feeding, and general care.
  • Participate in ICU team communication and contribute to ongoing workflow improvements.
