About The Position

Pieper Veterinary is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Technician to join our Oncology Department at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center, a VECCS Level I Facility in Middletown, CT. In this role, you will work alongside expert oncologists, supporting advanced treatments and therapies that give pets the best chance for recovery and an improved quality of life. You will play a key role in providing compassionate care and support to both patients and their families, making a meaningful impact every day. Requirements

  • Skilled in venipuncture.
  • Skilled in IV catheter placement.
  • Skilled in anesthesia.
  • Skilled in patient restraint.
  • Strong knowledge with Anesthesia and monitoring.
  • Phlebotomy.
  • Knowledge of the procedures used for scheduling patients, receiving, treating, ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.
  • Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques to sterilize various instruments and materials.
  • Knowledge of the instruments, materials, and standardized procedures used in the full variety of treatments to make preparations and provide “tableside” assistance.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services, including client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or knowledge in Oncology.
  • Experience or knowledge in chemotherapy.
  • Familiarity with CPR.
  • Familiarity with EzyVet.
  • Familiarity with SmartFlow.
  • Associate's in veterinary technology is a plus.
  • CVT license is a plus.
  • Additional compensation for VTS or those actively pursuing.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting advanced treatments and therapies for oncology patients.
  • Providing compassionate care and support to both patients and their families.
  • Ongoing client communication throughout patient treatment.
  • Collaborating with specialists and other team members to deliver high-quality care.
  • Assisting with patient restraint, venipuncture, and IV catheter placement.
  • Monitoring anesthesia and patient status.
  • Scheduling patients, receiving patients, treating patients, ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.
  • Using, caring for, and storing veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
  • Sterilizing various instruments and materials.
  • Providing "tableside" assistance during treatments.
  • Assessing client needs and ensuring quality service and client satisfaction.
  • Utilizing knowledge of the English language for effective communication.
