About The Position

VCA Encina Veterinary Medical Center is adding a Registered Veterinary Technician Lead role to our Specialty Dental Team. The Dental Specialty RVT Lead has a vital role in the functionality of the Specialty Dental Team. They must work to maintain the high level of medicine practiced at VCA Encina Veterinary Medical Center and ensure that the staff working in their department have the knowledge and ability to perform to the highest standard.

Responsibilities

  • Must comply with all company policies listed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Adhere to the Controlled Substance Policy and maintain accurate records.
  • Conduct themselves professionally at all times while on campus.
  • Communicate with co-workers and clients respectfully.
  • Complete training plans within a timely manner.
  • Follow all OSHA policies and know the location of SDS binders.
  • Maintain a clean work space, quickly picking up after yourself once your task is completed.
  • Meet monthly with the HM and other lead’s to discuss the status of the department.
  • Motivate and encourage staff to perform at the highest standard.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and lead by example.
  • Maintain workflow by assessing tasks and delegating them to team members, following up to be sure work is completed in a timely manner.
  • The Leads schedule must be flexible. If there is an absence in the department or an increase in workload it is the responsibility of the Specialty Dental RVT Lead to work side by side with the team and cover the floor as needed.
  • Help design, implement, and maintain protocols that improve assigned department and hospital functionality.
  • Ensure these protocols are written and easily accessible to staff.
  • Work with the HM and other lead’s to conduct regular meetings/training sessions with the staff to discuss updates to protocols, new equipment, new medication, etc.
  • Test team members attempting to “master” a set skill as directed by the HM.
  • Ensure that all employees working in designated department know and follow the protocols in place.
  • Work with the HM to schedule educational meetings quarterly/monthly for members of the department. This can include working with a vendor to have a lunch and learn on a topic common to the department, a webinar viewed by the department, assigned training that is completed and then discussed at the meeting, etc.
  • Work side by side with new employees during their first two weeks of orientation to assess their skill level.
  • Following their initial skill assessment, the Dental Specialty RVT Lead will work with the HM to create goals for the employees first 90 days. These goals should focus on familiarizing the employee with the policies and protocols of VCA Encina Veterinary Medical Center, as well as bringing their skillset to the level required for their position.
  • The Dental Specialty RVT Lead will work with the new employee regularly the first 90 days of employment to enable them to achieve the goals set in their initial training plan.
  • The HM will be updated regularly on the employees’ progress. This will include an update at the 90-day mark of employment, which will be used in the employees’ 90-day review.
  • Work with the Dental Specialty RVT Lead to evaluate team members’ overall skill level and create goals/training plans as needed.
  • Meet with team members working on new skillsets to evaluate their progress.
  • Employees are expected to act in the best interest of the hospital, even if doing so requires actions or responsibilities not specifically listed in the job description.
