About The Position

The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a full time Shelter Surgery Vet Tech to join our high-volume spay and neuter department at our Papago Park Campus, Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. Our shelter surgery team plays a critical role in ensuring every animal receives compassionate, high quality medical care. Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic/hospital setting required.
• Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology and pharmacology.
• Safe and humane animal handling skills are required.
• Must be proficient in anesthesiology.
• Provide excellent patient care in all perioperative phases for up to 50 cats and/or dogs per day.
• Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment.
• Must pass pre-employment drug and background screening to be compliant with DEA requirements for dispensing controlled drugs.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a veterinary technician program preferred, experience may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

• Assisting veterinarians in all aspects of AHS' Spay/Neuter initiatives including surgery, laboratory diagnostics, fluid therapy, emergency care as necessary, and the administration of prescribed medications.
• Assist in surgery prep, induction, monitoring, and recovering as needed.
• Work with veterinarians and other departments to ensure optimal animal care and flow.
