BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking a skilled Licensed Veterinary Technician to join their thriving Surgery department. This role involves assisting in patient procedures, monitoring anesthesia, performing physical exams, managing patient care from start to finish, and handling administrative tasks such as managing appointments and medical record keeping.

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician
  • Knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures
  • Ability to formulate anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs
  • Ability to monitor anesthesia and troubleshoot complications
  • Experience with intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation
  • Experience with anesthetic equipment use and maintenance
  • Ability to perform physical exams and accurately assess vital signs
  • Understanding of normal vital parameters
  • Ability to set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s
  • Advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot intravenous fluid pumps
  • Comfortable with medical math
  • Ability to manage patients through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery)
  • Experience managing appointments, obtaining histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, and patient discharges
  • Ability to aseptically disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids
  • Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy
  • Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
  • Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
  • Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
  • Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
  • Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
  • Comfortable with medical math.
  • Ability to take patient through entire procedure from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery).
  • Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
  • Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
  • Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
