About The Position

This is an excellent opportunity for an Emergency Veterinary Technician, ER Vet Tech, ICU Veterinary Technician, Critical Care Veterinary Technician, or experienced Veterinary Assistant who wants to strengthen their skills in emergency medicine, anesthesia, advanced diagnostics, and critical patient care. VERC is a state-of-the-art, 24-hour Emergency and Specialty veterinary hospital serving pets and families throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Our emergency professionals and board-certified specialists work collaboratively to provide advanced veterinary care supported by sophisticated diagnostic and treatment capabilities, including an in-house laboratory, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and electrochemotherapy. Our mission is to set the benchmark for veterinary emergency and specialty medicine by providing progressive and comprehensive patient care.

Requirements

  • At least two years of Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician experience in a progressive general practice, or at least one year of Specialty veterinary experience.
  • Strong technical nursing skills and comfort working with emergency and hospitalized patients.
  • Experience with patient monitoring, laboratory, radiographic, and anesthesia equipment.
  • Strong mathematical skills for medication dosages, fluid rates, and treatment calculations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt your communication style to different situations.
  • Strong organization, time management, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced Emergency & Critical Care environment.
  • Collaborative approach and commitment to exceptional patient and client care.

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency, Critical Care, ICU, Specialty, or high-volume veterinary experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Triage incoming Emergency patients and assist with patient assessment, stabilization, treatments, and procedures.
  • Provide hands-on nursing care and monitoring for ER, ICU, and hospitalized patients.
  • Perform venipuncture and catheter placement and assist with prescribed medications, IV fluids, and treatments.
  • Collect and process blood, urine, free fluid, fine needle aspirates, and other diagnostic samples.
  • Assist with radiographs and advanced diagnostic imaging.
  • Prepare, monitor, and recover patients undergoing sedation and anesthesia.
  • Operate patient monitoring, laboratory, radiographic, and anesthetic equipment safely and accurately.
  • Perform medication dosage, fluid rate, and other veterinary medical calculations.
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, clients, and other hospital teams.
  • Provide compassionate client service while supporting families through emergency and critical care situations.
