About The Position

Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences is seeking a team-oriented, experienced Veterinary Technician to help veterinary students perfect their technical skills during the first three years of their veterinary education. This role involves working in a team of technicians under the supervision of dedicated veterinarians to train students in essential technical skills. The position requires regularly guiding students as they develop clinical competencies in a classroom-based learning environment (Clinical Skills Lab).

Requirements

• Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, a related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two years of technical experience in veterinary medicine.
• Experience involving student instruction and/or mentorship.
• Experience teaching or in a learning environment.
• Experience in a managerial role and/or lead tech role.
• Experience in a veterinary medical hospital setting.
• Graduate of an AVMA approved veterinary technician program.
• Certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
• Certification as a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, or Emergency / Critical Care.
• Working knowledge of veterinary equipment used within a veterinary hospital.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support and instruction in anesthesia, surgery, and intensive care.
• Maintain accurate medical records and prepare clinical pathology samples.
• Educate students in various veterinary techniques, including suture, diagnostic skills, and anesthesia protocols.
• Effectively cross-train between large and small animal hospitals.
• Ensure the availability and proper functioning of equipment for patient and student safety.
• Maintain and operate laboratory and monitoring equipment.
• Manage inventory control and maintenance of hospital capital equipment.
• Instruct and assist students in maintaining accurate patient anesthesia and medical records.
• Ensure proper documentation and accounting of charges and controlled substances.
• Help organize and maintain the Clinical Skills Laboratory scheduling system.
• Remain current with safety classes, rabies prophylaxis, and Licensure Radiation/MRI safety Infection Control Aseptic Technique Rabies prophylaxis.
• Maintain certification or licensure where appropriate and demonstrate the basic skills of a Veterinary Technician II.
• Maintain a clean and organized service area by restocking supplies, sterilizing items, and ensuring infectious disease control.
• Perform other assigned duties as needed.
• Instruct veterinary students in proper clinical techniques, guiding and mentoring the next generation of veterinarians.
• Contribute to a collaborative environment where teamwork is key to delivering outstanding veterinary care and education.
