About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh (North Hills), PA is hiring an experienced Veterinary Lab Technician. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe and clean laboratory environment, ensuring accurate diagnostic results, and providing excellent care to patients. The technician will be responsible for running quality control samples, performing equipment maintenance, preparing specimens for external labs, and documenting all results meticulously in patient records. A basic understanding of animal care and handling, along with proficiency in veterinary medical terms and practice management software, is essential. The position also involves implementing animal husbandry skills to promote patient well-being and prevent disease spread.

Requirements

  • Experienced Veterinary Lab Technician
  • Basic understanding of animals, care and handling
  • Proficiency in practice management software
  • Solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations
  • Ability to converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms
  • Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe and clean laboratory by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Run quality control samples to verify accurate results on equipment.
  • Perform regular maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare and document specimens for external laboratory.
  • Provide an environment to furnish high quality, accurate diagnostic laboratory results.
  • Run necessary lab requests in a timely precise manner.
  • Record appropriate results in patient's written and electronic files.
  • Maintain accurate records on Quality Control, billing and send-out laboratory samples.
  • Compassionately, calmly and gently approaches and handles patients.
  • Have a basic understanding of animals, care and handling.
  • Approaches and handles patients according to safety protocols and core values.
  • Uses practice management software to maintain client and patient records according to hospital protocol.
  • Maintains solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and is able to converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.
  • Implement appropriate animal husbandry skills to decrease disease spread, injury and stress to patients.
