About The Position

PetWow is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and dependable Veterinary Surgical Assistant for a hands-on role in a fast-paced veterinary hospital. The position supports veterinarians in induction and anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, and patient recovery. It is primarily based at one hospital, though occasional coverage at nearby hospitals within a 15-mile radius may be requested. The schedule is built around patient-care needs, may vary from week to week, and requires flexibility to participate in team-based rotations and work within hospital operating hours.

Requirements

• Prior experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital, with a demonstrable skill set.
• Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Effective professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to participate in a team-based schedule with fair rotations and adapt to scheduling needs.
• Physical fitness to help restrain large animals, carry heavy loads, and remain on one’s feet for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for surgery, including catheter placement, anesthesia induction, and surgical setup.
• Intubate canine and feline patients and monitor anesthesia throughout procedures.
• Perform dental procedures.
• Take digital radiographs and collect laboratory samples for diagnostic testing.
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and provide nursing care.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Communicate professionally with clients and coworkers, and work collaboratively to meet changing patient and hospital needs.
