About The Position

Independence Veterinary Clinic is hiring a full-time or part-time Surgical Veterinary Assistant to work alongside veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to provide animals with high-quality care during their stay. The role supports examinations, treatments, surgeries, and the day-to-day operation of the clinic. The clinic focuses on personalized, compassionate medical, surgical, and preventative care, client education, and strong relationships with pet owners in a warm and welcoming environment. It also aims to foster an inclusive culture that celebrates diversity. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Compensation is $18–$20 per hour, based on experience and skillset.

Requirements

Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting.
Technical knowledge of tasks such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
Perform basic laboratory tests, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
Administer medications and vaccinations under a veterinarian’s supervision.
Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
Maintain accurate medical records.
Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
Clean and maintain the clinic, stock supplies, and help ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
