About The Position

Independence Veterinary Clinic is hiring a full-time or part-time Surgical Veterinary Assistant to work alongside veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to provide care for animals and customer service to pet owners. The clinic focuses on personalized, compassionate care tailored to the needs of pets and their families, including medical, surgical, and preventative services in a warm and welcoming environment. It emphasizes client education, trust, strong relationships with pet owners, and animal well-being. The clinic is dedicated to a diverse and inclusive culture.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 6 PM. Salary is $18–$20 per hour, based on experience and skillset.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting.
• Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
• Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
• Perform basic laboratory tasks, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
• Administer medications and vaccinations under a veterinarian’s supervision.
• Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
• Clean and maintain the clinic, stock supplies, and help ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
