United Veterinary Care is offering externships for veterinary students at over 100 hospital locations across more than 20 states. This clinical experience allows students to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world hospital setting. The externships are designed for clinical-year students at AVMA-accredited schools, typically in their 3rd or 4th year. Students will share their goals at the start of their rotation and be integrated into the team through case discussions, collaborative problem-solving, and hands-on patient care in GP, ER, and specialty settings. Gailor Animal Hospital, a full-service general practice hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, welcomes 3rd and 4th-year veterinary medical students. Gailor provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for a wide array of species, including dogs, cats, pocket pets/small mammals, reptiles, birds, and potbellied pigs. Services offered include ultrasound, endoscopy, acupuncture, holistic veterinary medicine, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, physical therapy/rehab services, wellness/preventative care, and medical appointments. The externship involves active participation in cases, supervised by experienced veterinarians and skilled support staff, including surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, sick patient workups, and routine medical appointments. Students will discuss cases with their supervising veterinarian and have their exam findings confirmed.
